In short

  • This is the same molecule as AOD-9604 — the C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone, amino acids 176-191 — sold under a descriptive name.
  • Read the AOD-9604 entry: it carries the clinical trial evidence, and that evidence is negative for weight loss.
  • Human phase 2 trials found no significant weight reduction versus placebo.
  • Products sold as "Fragment 176-191" have no verified relationship to the studied compound.
  • Treat as prohibited in sport under WADA S2 as a growth hormone fragment.

Structure

This name refers to the same hGH C-terminal fragment as AOD-9604, sold under a descriptive rather than a chemical name. PubChem has no entry under this label. See the AOD-9604 entry for the structure and the full evidence base.

How it works

Identical to AOD-9604: the C-terminal region of human growth hormone associated with lipolytic activity, without the IGF-1-mediating portion of the molecule.

In adipose tissue it is reported to stimulate lipolysis and inhibit lipogenesis without raising IGF-1 or affecting glucose handling.

What the research shows

The relevant results are the AOD-9604 human trials, which did not show significant weight loss versus placebo over 12 weeks.

Rodent data showing reduced body weight in obese mice is what the marketing draws on, and it did not translate.

Dosing in the literature

Figures below are quoted from published studies, with the species or population they were measured in. They are records of what was studied, not recommendations.

Commonly reported ranges

These are amounts people report using. They are not from any study, have not been evaluated for safety, and are reproduced here only because they circulate widely and are better seen alongside the evidence than instead of it.

No published human pharmacokinetic study establishes a dose, interval, or duration for this compound. Community figures below have no trial behind them and are reports of practice, not evidence. The trials of this exact fragment used far larger doses than the community injects and found no weight effect. There is also no assurance that a vial sold under this name contains the fragment at all.

Handling and storage

Supplied as a lyophilised powder requiring reconstitution with bacteriostatic water. The powder is comparatively stable; once reconstituted it is refrigerated and used within weeks. Track the date you reconstitute each vial — the Inventory section does this, and it is the difference between knowing a vial is three weeks old and guessing.

Subcutaneous injection, commonly fasted, is the community pattern. The clinical work used oral dosing.

Side effects

The AOD-9604 trials reported a good safety profile with no effect on IGF-1 or glucose.

Injection-site reactions are the usual community report. Safety is not the concern here; efficacy is.

Combinations

Commonly stacked with GH secretagogues. Given the negative trial result for the fragment itself, the combination adds cost rather than a demonstrated effect.

Research status

All the meaningful research is under the AOD-9604 name. Nothing has been published under this descriptive label separately.

Legal status

Not approved as a drug anywhere. Sold for research use only. The AOD-9604 GRAS food-ingredient status does not transfer to unverified research-market products sold under this name.

WADA status

PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES under WADA class S2 — growth hormone secretagogues, their releasing factors and mimetics are explicitly named. Any tested athlete should treat this as an anti-doping violation.

Conclusion

Fragment 176-191 and AOD-9604 are the same thing described two ways, and the split naming lets the negative clinical result attach to one name while marketing continues under the other.

The fragment was tested in humans. It did not produce weight loss.
